Katy J Pearson: 'Alligator'

Katy J Pearson has snapped back ahead of the release of her second album with ‘Alligator’ the latest track from 'Sound of the Morning', released on Heavenly Recordings on Friday 8th July.

It follows previous singles, ‘Talk Over Town’ and ‘Game Of Cards’, and the accompanying video, directed by Edie Lawrence, features an eclectic cameo list including Withnail & I's Paul McGann, who reprises a rather familiar character, and Pottery's Tom Gould.

'Alligator' sees Katy take the best bits of her folk-inspired debut record 'Return', famed for it’s tight and earnest lyricism, while simultaneously introducing an altogether more electronic sonic palette that permeates through the remaining unheard album tracks. The influence of Dan Carey is evident upon first listen; stomping drums reminiscent of Squid introduce the track, backed up by a bassline that'll be aurally familiar across dance floors this summer.

"I wrote this track with Dan Carey at his Streatham studio," Katy explains. "The day we did so I was having the worst morning ever; I was really stressed as I had a £500 electric bill that I had to pay. I burst into tears at the studio and from that feeling, the song just surfaced from all my anxieties."

Written and recorded in late 2021, the album is co-produced by Ali Chant and Speedy Wunderground head-honcho Dan Carey.
