Matt Maltese: ‘Hi’

Matt Maltese: ‘Hi’

Matt Maltese shares his latest single from the upcoming Madhouse EP that will be released on August 7th via Nettwerk. It follows the lead single ‘Queen bee’ - which featured The Lemon Twigs’ Brian D’Addario on guitar and Sorry’s Asha Lorenz on vocals.

After working with Foxygen’s Jonathan Rado on his debut album, Matt Maltese gifted us a homespun set of recordings that constituted his sophomore release, Krystal. The album was released in 2019 to widespread acclaim while Matt proved himself to be one of the rare songwriters that can use wit and humour within their songs to grapple with both emotional and intellectual concepts. The Madhouse EP is a similarly home-brewed affair with Maltese taking on most of the production duties with additional contributions coming from Jonathan Rado.

Matt Maltese has become known for his classic form of song writing that incorporates modern instruments to create an often otherworldly and dreamy sound. ‘Hi’ gives us a sixties melody, with a waltz feel, featuring a palette of drum machines, melodic synths and harmony-filled choruses.  It is a laid-back love ballad, written in collaboration with Rose Elinor Dougall and Edd Holloway during a Spotify Song writing camp.

Speaking about the track, Matt says... “This is an ode to someone who’s there for you and has been there all along. I think it’s a song that tries to capture the moment that your love for someone reveals itself to you.”
