The Big Moon: 'Here Is Everything'

The Big Moon: 'Here Is Everything'

A transcendent evocation of the burgeoning maternal spirit and a celebration of their enduring friendships, The Big Moon are back with their brand new album ‘Here Is Everything’. A record that crackles with pure joy and ecstasy and cements the group’s reputation as one of the most important pop bands of the modern era.

In its current guise, pop music, even with its entire, kaleidoscopic spectrum is seldom heralded for its contributions to the art of songwriting. Few acts manage to find the balance between profound lyricism and Coca-Cola musicality to produce not just a hit, but something that moves, affects and endures. In the age of the micro-hit, The Big Moon are the exception to that rule.

On their new album ‘Here Is Everything’, the band leave behind the Tequila tainted coming-of-age stories and the tales of venereal biohacking that came to define their previous works in favour of something more focused and thematically singular.

While many of us were quizzing, binge-watching and House Partying (the app as opposed to the Downing Street variety, of course!) our way through lockdown, lead singer and principal songwriter, Juliette Jackson was negotiating the long and emotionally turbulent road to motherhood. A journey that would culminate in the birth of her first child and the foundations of the band’s new record.

Across eleven tracks ‘Here Is Everything’ charts Jackson’s experiences in real-time, capturing everything from childbirth to breastfeeding, seamlessly morphing these experiences into some of the most joyous and euphoric pop music of the year and acting as a clear testament to the band’s collective artistry and songwriting capabilities.

Tracks such as ‘Trouble’ and ‘Daydreaming’ see The Big Moon at their very best. Warm, euphoric soundscapes, embellished by rousing vocal harmonies and rich instrumentation coalesce with life-affirming lyricism to express the full extent of Jackson’s transformation, Whatever I cared about before this / don’t mean a thing to me now.

On ‘Here Is Everything’ the band explore new sonic landscapes to great effect. The influence of folk and desert rock permeate on tracks such as ‘This Love’ and ‘Suckerpunch’ respectively and make for a much more rounded listening experience however, at its very core, this is a pop record that further refines their sound from their two previous releases. The album is unquestionably The Big Moon, but just as you’ve never heard them before.

A lyrical expression of love and its many guises, the new album from the London four-piece is a profound portrayal of the heart that will move your hips as much as it will stir the soul. A timely expression of the beauty held within close personal bonds, ‘Here Is Everything’ is a body of work that’s sentiment will resonate across generations and endure long beyond the next wave of Tik Tok trends.
