Chappaqua Wrestling: 'Football'

Brighton by way of Manchester is the route that Chappaqua Wrestling took on their journey to indie success, following in the footsteps of their musical heroes as they traversed the country in search of stability. Leaving their nomadic lifestyle behind them, they've recently released riffy new single 'Football'.

Showing a newer side to the band altogether, a departure of sorts from the sound that encapsulates early singles such as 'Plant Trees' and 'Early', the band have matured musically and have also added childhood friend John Townsend to the band; the new drummer enforcing a heavier feel to their output.

Of their new single, one half of the songwriting partnership, Charlie Wood explains: “On Football we take one riff and develop it layer after layer, and it grows harder and harder as it moves on. On top of all the brutishness is a story of social displacement, and unease in one’s surroundings. The lyrics we recently added as a homage to our teenage years in Brighton, with some of the social-angst of that time.”

It's abundantly clear the band are morphing into a better version of themselves, a hybrid version almost; think Chappaqua Wrestling 2.0 and you'd be on the right tracks. 'Football' is a song for the summer we've lost, an ode to feeling isolated in an all-too familiar setting; which seems well too common these days.
