Glass Caves: 'Eye to Eye'

Glass Caves: 'Eye to Eye'

With curly locks to rival Marc Bolan and Brian May, duo Glass Caves look the proper indie part. However, it’s not all about the aesthetic: the band have proved their substance matches their style on epic new single ‘Eye to Eye’.

Glass Caves caught media attention back in 2017 for their monumental busking efforts. Non-stop street performing garnered the band a loyal following of fans, and there is industry-wide admiration for their back-to-basics methods of self-promotion. Years of busking and burning their own CDs eventually brought Glass Caves to the stage in headline shows and a support slot for alt megastars Metronomy.

Now, Glass Caves are back with anthem ‘Eye to Eye’. A steady pace allows singer Matt Hallas’ vocals and passionate lyrical pleas to shine, but the strength of the bass builds the track to a euphoric, indie-pop symphony. ‘Eye to Eye’ has echoes of White Lies’ recent releases, and a Sundara Karma summertime flair. It’s a poppy, head-boppy three minutes of electronic enjoyment.

‘Eye to Eye’ is a breakaway from the usual drudgery of indie that takes itself too seriously. Glass Caves acknowledge and relish in sugar-sweet instrumentals, progressing upward from their rock roots.

Coronavirus has plunged the music industry into murky waters, but years of singing on the street mean Glass Caves are made of stronger stuff than their name may suggest. They've already announced a tour for 2021, and tickets are available here. Until live shows are allowed again, Glass Animals have given fans plenty to feast their eyes on, releasing a new music video to accompany ‘Eye to Eye’.

On ‘Eye to Eye’, Glass Caves have cherrypicked the best aspects of indie and pop and brought them face to face.
